Photos from Atacames taken on Monday, August 21, 2006
We hired a bus and driver to take us from Quito to Atacames. Atacames
is in the Esmeraldas province of Ecuador. It is on the shore and so
it is, of course, at sea level and about 30°F warmer than Quito.
The bus arrived in Calderón to pick us up at about 6:00
a.m. and it got us to Atacames at about 1:00 p.m. During the ride,
Mike was feeling ill from something he ate the night before (at a
Colombian restaurant near the airport in Quito) and it caused him to
throw up on the bus and then get severe diarrhea and fever, so he was
taken to a clinic where they put him on an IV for two hours and gave
him some antibiotics. He was well by the next day.
