On the return flight from Quito we had to stop in Panama City to
refuel. We were told that this happened because the plane was so full
of people that they couldn't take off with a full tank of fuel! I
wasn't sure if I believed that story, but we did sit on the tarmack
long enough to refuel and then we flew to Miami. Panama City is
almost exactly on the flight path from Quito to Miami, so it is a
convenient place to stop along the way.
Chris took the photos below from the window of the plane as it
approached Panama City. Most of the photos show boats approaching the
Panama Canal or actually in the Panama Canal. Hey — this
reminds me of my favorite palindrome: A man, a plan, a canal, Panama!
